Jeanne d'Arc, woMAN of many names.

WHY?
Jeanne wasn't from Arc (d'Arc translates to from Arc). Jeanne's village was Domremy.
She called herself Jehanne la Pucelle.
And since the people from her village took their mother's last names she should have been Jeanne Romee or Jeanne de Vouthon.

Jeanne's father was Jaqcues d'Arc. and Jehanne was simply the German version of Jeanne / Joan. And the rest of patriarchal France would have adapted this name - Jeanne d'Arc.
